It is that time again. The good old Ronda Rousey vs Cris “Cyborg” Santos rumours.
The problem with it before, was that Cyborg never actually competed in the Octagon (and the weight. We’ll get into that.). She has been in other organizations such as Invicta. But never has she actually fought in the UFC. She still hasn’t.
Well, on May 14th, 2016, Cris Santos will enter the Octagon for the very first time against Leslie Smith at UFC 198. Now that Cyborg is in the organization officially, she feels that she has yet another chance to face former UFC women’s bantamweight champion, Ronda Rousey.
Now that “Rowdy” is no longer queen, Santos believes that a superfight at 140 pounds “for the fans” should indeed happen. And, why not?
After the New York governor allowed MMA a couple of days ago, Cyborg asked for a fight in the Madison Square Garden. Rousey was at the conference where the legislation was signed, and she has stated prior that she would love to fight at the first event in New York since 1997.
With that ammunition, the fight makes a lot of sense. Fighters like Chris Weidman have also explained interest to be on that card, making a good-looking card. If Weidman, Rousey, and Cyborg all fought on the first card in NYC, it would make a huge impact.
This match makes a lot of sense to me. Ronda has no current matchup for a championship, meaning any other fight could come up. Although, Ronda doesn’t have to accept the offer, especially because it isn’t at her weight class. But if Ronda spends time from now until November 12th, she could easily put on 5 or so pounds to make 140 pounds.
What do you think?
