2015 is rapidly coming to a close but in the fight world, the fun is just beginning. The UFC tends to pack in the talent typically starting in October. This year, December will make history. Several titles will be on the line including the Lightweight title. I have several fights that I am excited for, but my ultimate favourite would probably be….
The fight takes place in Orlando, Florida on December 19th. It’s the rematch from a fight back in 2013, the only difference is, it’s for the undisputed UFC lightweight championship. Rafael Dos Anjos defeated Donald “Cowboy” Cerrone two years ago in a close decision. Ever since that win, Dos Anjos lost to Khabib Nurmagomedov then went on a four-fight win streak over Jason High, Benson Henderson, Nate Diaz, and then Anthony Pettis in March for the title.
The 30 year-old Brazilian is currently 24-7-0 in professional MMA and has accumulated a multitude of post-fight awards. Two performance of the night awards, 1 fight of the night, and 1 submission of the night.
His opponent, Donald “Cowboy” Cerrone is known by many as the guy who fights whenever and wherever and has done so over the past couple years. In 2013, he fought four times, in 2014 he fought four times, and this upcoming fight will be his fourth fight of 2015. Currently, Cerrone is on a eight-fight winning streak ever since the loss to Dos Anjos. In those eight fights, he was awarded two performance of the night, one submission of the night, and one knockout of the night.
Donald, (28-6-0 1NC), is one of the tallest in the division, 6’1″, meaning he has a four-inch height advantage. If I were to make a prediction, I’d say Donald Cerrone will redeem himself by split decision.
I’m definitely pumped for this war and you guys should be as well. Well, that’ll do it for me! See you later courtesy of Maximizing MMA!
