What is required to be known as the pound-for-pound best fighter in the world? Consistency? Skill? Amount of titles? Title defences? MMA record? All are valid and true and is what currently makes the UFC what it is today. Below is my personal P4P rankings. NOTE:This doesn’t include past fighters or fighters who have faded away. EX: Anderson Silva and Georges St. Pierre. Also, this does not include my personal favourite fighters. Stats courtesy of UFC.ca.
Number 5: “Rowdy” Ronda Rousey: Rousey has taken UFC and fighting for females in general by storm. She has dominated every opponent that has ever entered the cage against her. Defending her championship belt a total of six times. Rousey is scheduled to fight once again in November against Holly Holm.

Number 4: “Ruthless” Robbie Lawler: Robbie Lawler has been all over the MMA spectrum. Early UFC, StrikeForce, and again, the UFC. At the age of 33, Robbie Lawler has been in professional martial arts competition for 14 years. A champion since December of 2014, Lawler has only defended it once, in a fifth round TKO over Rory MacDonald. It’s for this reason that Lawler is #4 on my P4P list.

Number 3: TJ Dillashaw: TJ Dillashaw is the current UFC bantamweight champion and many are quite surprised that he is a champ, including me. After a dominant victory against Renan Barao to win the belt, TJ defeated Joe Soto in the fifth round and Renan Barao for a second time. One interesting thing to note about Dillashaw’s fights, is that he has won his fights in the championship rounds. First, he beats them down, then finishes the fight in the fourth and fifth round.
Number 2: Jose “Junior” Aldo: Jose Aldo is the current UFC featherweight champion. Aldo is one of the most feared strikers in the sport today, in both the WEC and the UFC. Aldo has been a champion since the year 2009. 10 straight defences including 7 in the UFC. Jose is an impressive 25-1-0 with three fight of the night awards and three knockout of the night awards. Jose Aldo has a fight set up on Dec. 12th versus “The Notorious” Conor McGregor in a rivalry fight to unify the UFC interim Featherweight championship and the UFC Featherweight championship.

Number 1: Demetrious Johnson: Finally, my #1 P4P UFC fighter is Demetrious “Mighty Mouse” Johnson. “Mighty Mouse” has showed no signs of slowing down. Ever since grabbing the UFC Flyweight championship in a tournament, Johnson has successfully stopped all 8 of his opponents, most recently in a dominant victory over John “The Magician” Dodson. Demetrious is the true definition of “all-around”. His footwork, his speed, his agility, his grappling, and his amazing stamina. Dodson was looking like the only one able to stop “Mighty Mouse” but that wasn’t the case. I’m truly fascinated with every thing he does and I think he will be champ for a long time.
