UFC 191 concluded last night and now it is time for my preliminary fights thoughts and results.
FIGHT PASS PRELIMS:
~J.Silva (9-1) def N. Malegarie (28-6) via SD (30-27, 30-27, 28-29). This fight was a great way to start off UFC 191. Both through bombs from bell-to-bell and created an absolute barnburner.
~J. Riggs (42-6-0 1NC) def R. Stallings (13-9-0 1NC) via DQ. In the 1st round, Stallings landed a stiff jab to the right eye of Riggs. The eye obviously bothered “Diesel” for the remainder of the round. At the beginning of the 2nd round, Riggs tagged Stallings and continued to land brutal elbows on the ground up until Ron Stallings landed an illegal kick to the jaw of Riggs. There was no evidence that the kick hurt the eye more but after Joe Riggs called a timeout, the referee stopped the fight and awarded the win to Joe “Diesel” Riggs.
UFC 191 PRELIMS ON TSN 2:
~T. Trator (21-5-2 1NC) def C. Collard (14-8-0 1NC) via SD (28-29, 29-28, 28-29). Both fighters again went toe-to-toe and showed that they both wanted the “W”. It was the amount of control that Trator had that won him the contest.
~R. Pennington def J. Andrade via SUB. Now this was a nice fight on the “revenge tour” for Raquel Pennington winning with a mere 1 second left in round 2. Pennington seemed to have won the opening round but wasn’t looking the greatest throughout the first round. Overall, she won the fight and that is all that matters.
~J. Lineker def F. Rivera via SUB. If I were to describe this fight in four words, I would choose “Rock Em’ Sock Em”. Both Lineker and Rivera through for the fences. Lineker took many powerful shots but landed more of his own. Even with all of the strikes, it was a guillotine choke that forced Rivera to tap out.
~R. Pearson def P. Felder via SD (30-27, 29-28, 28-29). This was everything that we hoped for. Although it wasn’t an outstanding knockout, it was a great stand-up war. Punches, kicks, knees, and elbows from both. Pearson got the majority though. Felder was disappointed is his defeat, but was a-okay for a rematch. Look out for a trilogy between these two.
That concludes the UFC 191 Prelims results & my thoughts.
